Happy Jumping Popcorn

I really love this piece and it has a melancholy story related to the title

The Expression, “Happy Jumping Popcorn” was not mine; it came from a friend and former acquaintance who is no longer in my life. The title of the sculpture came first, and I made the sculpture fit the title. For me, this was most unusual. I create a sculpture and when it is finished the title comes to me, sometimes easily but often with difficulty.

This acquaintance was coming to Chicago for a visit, and I planned the whole weekend: dinners, theater, sight seeing, three fun-filled days. I asked my friend if she wanted to know the schedule for the visit or be surprised. The response was, “I want to be surprised like happy, jumping popcorn.

I loved the expression and decided I wanted to make a Happy Jumping Popcorn sculpture.

The creation of art is the passion. The completion of art only ignites another creation.
